FORM BIKE FITTING XPS CLEAT EXTENDER PLATE
The Professional Solution for Mechanical Advantage and Comfort.
The Form Bike Fitting XPS Extender Plates are precision-engineered performance tools designed to solve one of the most common issues in professional bike fitting: limited cleat adjustability. Many modern cycling shoes lack the necessary bolt-hole range for riders who require a mid-foot or significant rearward cleat position. The XPS plates bridge this gap, allowing for an additional 10mm to 14mm of rearward adjustment beyond the factory limits of your shoes.
Moving the cleats rearward can drastically reduce strain on the calves and Achilles tendons, mitigate "hot spots" on the balls of the feet, and improve power transfer efficiency for endurance and long-distance riders. Crafted from high-strength materials to ensure zero-flex performance, these plates are available in dedicated versions for the two most popular road pedal systems in the world.
Key Performance Benefits
Extreme Rearward Adjustment: Provides the necessary clearance for a "mid-foot" cleat position, which is often recommended by bike fitters to stabilize the foot and reduce lower-leg fatigue.
Precision CNC Machined: Engineered for a perfect, flush fit between the sole of the shoe and the cleat, ensuring there is no "stack height" wobble or mechanical play.
Zero-Flex Power Transfer: Despite the extension, the plates maintain a rock-solid platform, ensuring that every watt is transferred directly into the pedal stroke.
Medical & Biomechanical Relief: Specifically effective for riders dealing with chronic calf tightness, Achilles tendonitis, or "numb toes" caused by excessive pressure on the metatarsal heads.
Stainless Steel Hardware: Includes high-quality, flush-mount hardware to ensure a secure installation that won't corrode or seize over time.
Available Versions
1. XPS Shimano (SPD-SL) Compatible
Designed specifically for the 3-bolt Shimano SPD-SL cleat pattern (Yellow, Blue, or Red cleats).
Maintains the specific triangular orientation required for Shimano’s wider pedaling platform.
Best For: Road racers and enthusiasts using Shimano PD-R8000, R9100, or R7000 pedals.
2. XPS Look (KEO) Compatible
Optimized for the Look KEO and Look Delta bolt patterns.
Contoured to fit the specific footprint of Look cleats to ensure the "Memory Clip" functionality (where applicable) remains stable.
Best For: Riders utilizing Look Keo Blade, Classic, or Max pedal systems.

✅ Why This IS For You
The "Long-Legged" Rider: If you have long femurs and struggle to get your saddle far enough back, moving the cleats rearward can help balance your weight over the bottom bracket.
Endurance & Ultra-Distance: Ideal for Audax or Gran Fondo riders who want to shift the load away from smaller, fatigue-prone calf muscles to the larger glute and quad groups.
Foot Pain Sufferers: If you experience "hot spots" even with high-end insoles, shifting the pressure point behind the ball of the foot often provides immediate relief.
❌ Why This May NOT be for you
Criterium / Sprinters: Some pure sprinters prefer a very forward cleat position for maximum "snap" and high-cadence acceleration.
Walkability Concerns: Adding an extender plate slightly changes the walking profile of the shoe; if you do a significant amount of walking in your road shoes, be mindful of the slight change in cleat angle.
BFC Pro Tip
When installing XPS Extender Plates, you are effectively shortening your functional leg length. Because the foot sits flatter and further forward on the pedal, you will almost certainly need to lower your saddle height (typically by 3mm–5mm) to maintain your optimal knee extension. We always recommend marking your original cleat position with a silver sharpie before installing the plates so you have a baseline. Finally, because these plates add a small amount of stack height, ensure you use the provided longer bolts to ensure full thread engagement into your shoe's base plate!
