GALFER BRAKE PAD SRAM ELIXIR / LEVEL / RED / FORCE
Tailored Performance for SRAM Systems.
The Galfer FD427 series is the high-performance upgrade for a wide range of SRAM brakes, including the Level MTB series and the Red,Force, and Rival eTap AXS road groupsets. By moving away from standard sintered pads to Galfer’s advanced organic semi-metal compounds, you gain better modulation, reduced noise, and a braking feel customized to your specific riding environment.
Available in four distinct color-coded compounds, these pads allow you to prioritize raw power, extreme durability, or silent operation.
The 4 Key Compounds Explained
1. Standard (Black - G1053)
The Standard compound is your reliable everyday choice. It is engineered to be a "fit and forget" solution that offers a consistent, predictable bite across a wide range of temperatures. It excels in providing a silent braking experience and minimal rotor wear, making it perfect for recreational MTB use or daily road training where balance is more important than extreme race performance.
2. Pro (Green - G1554T)
The Pro compound is a race-focused material that requires no bedding-in. It provides an incredibly aggressive initial bite and remains stable even under the extreme heat of long, technical descents. Because it is a softer, high-friction compound, it offers the best stopping power in the lineup but will wear out faster than the other options. This is the top choice for Enduro racing or riders who demand maximum "anchor" power.
3. Advanced (Red - G1851)
The Advanced compound is specifically designed for wet, muddy, and extreme conditions. While other pads can lose friction or develop a loud "honking" noise when soaked, the Red compound uses specialized fibers to maintain a high friction coefficient in the rain. If you ride through the winter or live in a climate with unpredictable weather, these pads ensure your braking remains powerful and silent regardless of the trail conditions.
4. Road (Blue - G1455)
The Road compound is tuned specifically for the higher speeds and sustained heat cycles of tarmac riding. It offers a very progressive feel, allowing you to "feather" the brakes with extreme precision during high-speed cornering. It is optimized to reduce vibrations—a common issue with lightweight road disc rotors—ensuring a smooth, chatter-free stop in both dry and damp conditions.

✅ Why This IS For You
SRAM Road Users: If your Red or Force brakes feel "grabby" or noisy, the Road (Blue) compound provides a much smoother and quieter interface.
XC & Trail Riders: The Standard or Pro compounds offer a significant upgrade in lever feel over the stock SRAM organic pads.
Bad Weather Commuters: The Advanced (Red) pads are a game-changer for anyone who has struggled with losing braking power in a heavy downpour.
❌ Why This May NOT be for you
Caliper Compatibility: These will not fit the newer SRAM "4-piston" Level or Code calipers. Always double-check your caliper model before ordering.
High Maintenance: The Pro (Green) compound is very soft; if you are looking for a pad that lasts an entire season of daily riding, the Standard compound is a much better value.
Bedding-In Patience: Except for the Green compound, these pads require a strict bedding-in process to reach their full potential. Skipping this will lead to glazing and poor performance.
BFC Pro Tip
SRAM calipers can sometimes be prone to "sticky" pistons. When swapping to your new Galfer pads, we recommend using a plastic tire lever to carefully push the pistons all the way back into the caliper body. This ensures you have plenty of clearance for the new, full-thickness pad material and helps realign the "bite point" of your lever for that crisp, new-brake feel.
