PARKTOOL CASSETTE REMOVER FR-5.2
The Park Tool FR-5.2 Cassette Remover is a staple for every Australian home garage and professional workshop bench. Engineered from heat-treated alloy tool steel, this highly durable tool features a thin-wall construction that allows for seamless engagement without requiring the removal of most quick-release hub end caps. It is specifically designed to fit the ubiquitous 12-spline, 23.4mm diameter tool fitting found on almost all modern bicycle cassette lockrings.
This versatile tool is fully compatible with standard Shimano, SRAM (including 1x systems), SunRace, Shimano Center Lock disc brake lockrings, and other matching brands. The one-inch hexagonal base is perfectly sized to be driven with a standard adjustable wrench, socket, or a bench vise, giving you maximum leverage to break free stubborn, over-torqued lockrings. Its robust, solid-base design guarantees that the splines won't twist or shear under high load, ensuring crisp engagement and protecting your expensive drivetrain components from accidental rounding or scoring.
Key Features
Heat-Treated Alloy Steel: Constructed from premium, industrial-grade tool steel that resists wear, rounding, and deformation over a lifetime of use.
Thin-Wall Engineering: Crafted with thin walls so you can insert the tool directly into the lockring without needing to slide off your hub's QR end caps.
Universal 12-Spline Fit: Features the industry-standard 23.4mm outer diameter spline pattern, making it highly versatile across multiple drivetrain brands.
Dual-Purpose Functionality: Removes both rear wheel gear cassette lockrings and front/rear Shimano Center Lock disc brake rotor lockrings.
Hexagonal Driving Base: Designed with a 25.4mm (1-inch) hex shape base to seamlessly fit adjustable spanners, open-ended wrenches, or workshop vises.
SRAM & Shimano Optimized: Fully compatible with 7 to 12-speed cassettes from the world's leading component manufacturers.

✅ Why This IS For You
DIY Home Mechanics: An absolute must-have if you want to replace worn cassettes, swap out gear ranges, or thoroughly deep-clean your drivetrain at home.
Center Lock Disc Users: Essential if your bike uses Shimano Center Lock disc brakes, as this exact tool is required to tighten and remove the rotor lockrings.
Riders Upgrading to 12-Speed: Completely compatible with modern high-performance 12-speed SRAM and Shimano cassettes, saving you from buying separate proprietary tools.
Workshop Organisers: The compact, lightweight footprint slides easily into a mobile ride-wrap toolkit or hangs cleanly on a workshop pegboard.
❌ Why This May NOT Be For You
Campagnolo Drivetrain Owners: This tool features a Shimano/SRAM spline pattern; Campagnolo cassettes utilize a completely different spline diameter and shape (requires the Park Tool BBT-5/FR-11).
Riders Lacking a Chain Whip: To remove a cassette, you must pair this tool with a chain whip (like the SR-12.2) to stop the gears from free-spinning; it cannot do the job entirely alone.
BMX and Single-Speed Riders: Designed specifically for multi-gear cassette lockrings, meaning it won’t fit threaded single-speed freewheels or track cogs.
BFC Pro Tip
When loosening a stubborn, factory-torqued cassette lockring, thread your wheel's quick-release skewer (or use a spare bolt on thru-axle hubs) loosely through the hub and the FR-5.2 tool, leaving about a 3mm gap. This holds the tool completely flush against the lockring splines and prevents it from slipping or tipping sideways when you apply heavy downward force. Once you hear that initial "crack" of the lockring loosening, simply wind the skewer out and spin the cassette off easily with your fingers!
