SRAM RED AXS E1 SHIFT / BRAKE LEVER
The SRAM RED AXS E1 Shift/Brake System represents the most significant ergonomic overhaul in SRAM's road history. By moving the internal piston to a horizontal orientation and raising the lever pivot point, they have achieved true one-finger braking from both the hoods and the drops
This update provides a 80% reduction in braking effort from the hoods compared to the previous generation. The system is also 83g lighter as a set and features "Bonus Buttons" on the inside of the hoods for thumb-actuated shifting or controlling ANT+ devices like a cycle computer.
Key Features
Refined Ergonomics: The updated hood shape is slimmer and slightly longer, providing better finger wrap and reduced hand fatigue on long rides.
Carbon Fiber Levers: Lightweight carbon brake blades feature Reach Adjust and Contact Point Adjust to perfectly dial in the fit for any hand size.
Stiffer, Lighter Calipers: The two-piece calipers feature more machining for weight savings and improved pad clearance to prevent annoying rotor rub.
Bonus Buttons: Integrated buttons allow for auxiliary shifting or screen toggling on compatible head units.
AXS Ecosystem: Fully wireless and backward compatible with all 12-speed SRAM AXS road drivetrains.

✅ Why This IS For You
Small Hands or Long Days: If you find standard hydraulic hoods too "chunky," the slimmed-down E1 profile and easier reach adjustment make a massive difference in comfort.
Weight Weenies: This is currently the lightest electronic disc brake system on the market, making it the premier choice for high-end climbing builds.
Technical Descenders: The increased leverage means you can maintain full braking control with a single finger, leaving the rest of your hand free to securely grip the bars.
❌ Why This May NOT be for you
Budget Builders: At over A$1,000 per side, the SRAM Force AXS E1 offers nearly identical braking performance and "one-finger" leverage for a much lower price.
Rim Brake Frames: This system is disc-brake only. If you are running a rim-brake frame, you would need to stick with the older Red eTap AXS (D1) generation.
Reach Sensitivity: The new hoods are approximately 7-10mm longer than the previous version. You may need to swap to a shorter stem to maintain your exact bike fit.
BFC Pro Tip
The SRAM RED E1 shifters are entirely backward compatible with previous-generation 12-speed Force, Rival, or Red derailleurs. If you want the improved braking and ergonomics without buying a whole new groupset, you can just upgrade the levers and calipers. Note that these ship with Bleeding Edge technology, so make sure you have the specific SRAM bleed kit adapter for a mess-free setup.
