FORM BIKE FITTING SPEEDPLAY ML9 CLEAT EXTERNDER PLATE
The FORM Speedplay Cleat Extender Plate ML9 is a premium, precision-engineered problem solver tailored for road cyclists and bike fitters seeking a wider or narrower stance width (Q-Factor) than what standard hardware allows. Physiology dictates that not every rider fits the static width of standard cranksets. The ML9 provides a highly effective, cost-efficient alternative to buying expensive extended pedal axles or adding unsafe numbers of pedal washers, ensuring your feet sit exactly where nature intended.
Constructed from premium, high-grade aluminium, the ML9 plate replaces the standard Speedplay base plate and provides an additional 9mm of lateral or medial customisation. This side-to-side shift is crucial for larger riders who naturally pedalled with a "V-twin" outward stance, as well as smaller riders whose feet are forced out wider than is natural. By aligning the foot directly beneath the knee's natural tracking path, this plate improves hip, knee, and foot tracking to directly mitigate medial or lateral knee pain.
Every kit is supplied with high-tensile Torx countersunk screws designed to sit perfectly flush within the plate geometry, ensuring complete structural integrity under high-torque sprinting and climbing loads. The plate features two independent sets of cleat mounting holes—a standard position and a dedicated medial/lateral position. By moving the shoe away from the crankarm, it also acts as an excellent solution for riders who find their heels constantly rubbing against the bike's chainstays.
Key Features
9mm Medial/Lateral Adjustment: Delivers up to 9mm of extra side-to-side positioning to widen or narrow your stance width outside the range of standard base plates.
Dual-Position Mounting Holes: Features two distinct sets of cleat attachment points (standard and medial/lateral) to support highly customized tuning.
Premium Aluminium Build: Crafted from highly durable, lightweight aluminium to withstand heavy torque without flexing, warping, or stripping threads.

Why This IS For You
✅ Corrects Knee Tracking Pain: Perfect if you suffer from medial or lateral knee discomfort caused by an unnatural stance width that forces your legs out or in.
✅ Prevents Heel Rubbing: Ideal for riders with an exaggerated heel-in pedalling style who constantly scrape their shoes against the crankarms or chainstays.
✅ Customisable Q-Factor: Great for broader or narrower riders who want to match their bicycle's ergonomics perfectly to their natural hip width.
Why This May NOT Be For You
❌ Slight Loss of Rearward Range: The ML9 design loses the last 3mm of rearward plate adjustment compared to a standard Speedplay base plate; use only if you have plenty of rearward range left on your shoe holes.
❌ Minor Modifications Required: Depending on your shoe brand and positioning, you may need to use a craft knife or drill to slightly trim the blue plastic Speedplay wedges to achieve maximum clearance.
❌ Strictly Road Specific: Tailored exclusively for 3-hole road shoe configurations utilising Speedplay or Wahoo Speedplay pedal systems; it will not fit mountain bike or standard 3-hole Shimano cleats.
BFC PRO TIP
Because this extender plate relies on specific Torx countersunk hardware to guarantee a flush, secure fit, always use the provided screws and the included mini Torx tool during assembly—substituting standard hex or Phillips head screws will ruin the flush interface. If you are using this plate to widen your stance (pushing the shoe outward), double-check your chainstay clearance on a stationary trainer first. Moving your feet side-to-side can subtly change how your hips load, so give yourself two or three shorter rides to adapt to the new alignment before tackling a massive weekend epic!
