MICROSHIFT R10 BAR END SHIFTERS 10 SPEED
The Microshift R10 Bar End Shifters 10 Speed offer ultimate reliability for drop-bar adventure bikes. Featuring machined aluminium parts and a switchable friction mode, they provide bombproof performance across the globe.
Description
The Microshift R10 Bar End Shifters 10 Speed stand as the absolute gold standard for touring cyclists, bikepackers, and long-distance commuters who value bulletproof mechanical reliability over modern complexity. Positioned at the pinnacle of Microshift’s road line, these premium shifters are purposely built with fewer moving parts to survive the harshest environments on earth. Whether you are navigating remote outback corrugations or grinding out an urban commute, this system completely removes the fragile plastic internals found in integrated brake-shift levers, providing an almost indestructible interface that won't leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Crafted from cold-forged, precision-machined aluminium, the R10 shifters boast a premium anodised finish that drops weight while massively stepping up physical durability. The defining feature of the right-hand shifter is its highly versatile, transferable dual-mode operation. With a simple, tool-free turn of the dial, you can seamlessly switch the rear shifting between crisp index indexing and classic continuous friction mode. If your derailleur hanger gets slightly bent on a gravel track or your gear cable stretches midway through a multi-day trip, flipping the shifter into friction mode bypasses the index stops entirely, allowing you to manually trim your gears and keep riding perfectly without a workshop.
Ergonomically tuned for drop handlebars, aerodynamic extensions, or time-trial setups, the levers offer a highly tactile feel with adjustable shifting tension via an innovative torque bolt. This clever feature allows riders to customise exactly how much physical effort is required to execute a shift, preventing accidental gear changes when riding over heavily rutted fire trails. The left shifter operates on a continuous micro-friction system designed for double or triple chainring configurations. This lets you finely trim the front derailleur position to completely eliminate annoying chain rub across the entire 10-speed rear cassette range.
Key Features
Machined Aluminium Build: Constructed from premium cold-forged and anodised aluminium subcomponents for class-leading durability and reduced weight.
Convertible Friction Mode: The rear right shifter can be switched instantly from indexed shifting to full friction mode to handle mechanical issues or cable stretch.
Adjustable Lever Tension: Equipped with an innovative torque bolt that lets you dial in or loosen the shift effort to match your exact tactile preference.
Micro-Trim Front Shifting: The left shifter relies on smooth friction operation, giving you infinite trim adjustability to stop front derailleur chain rub on 2x and 3x setups.
Shimano Road Compatible: Designed to index flawlessly with standard Shimano Road 10-speed drivetrains, making it an incredibly versatile component upgrade.

Why This IS For You
Unmatched Remote Reliability: Ideal for global touring and remote bikepacking where a broken integrated shifter would end your expedition.
Bypasses Mechanical Damage: If your derailleur hanger gets bent on the trail, switching to friction mode keeps you riding smoothly through all 10 gears.
Infinite Front Derailleur Trimming: Perfect if you run a 2x or 3x front chainring setup and are sick of the chain rubbing against the cage in extreme gears.
Customisable Shift Effort: The adjustable torque bolt lets you stiffen the levers so rough terrain won't cause accidental ghost-shifting.
Lightweight Cockpit Upgrade: Stripping out heavy brake-shift levers and moving the shifting mechanism to the bar ends saves substantial weight up front.
Why This May NOT Be For You
❌ Requires Hand Movement: Because the shifters sit at the ends of your handlebars, you must move your hands off the brake hoods to change gears, which is less ideal for fast-paced road racing.
❌ Not Compatible with MTB Derailleurs: These are engineered specifically to match Shimano Road cable pull ratios; they will not index properly with Shimano Mountain Bike (MTB) rear derailleurs.
❌ External Cable Esthetics: Depending on your bar tape routing choices, bar-end shifters often result in exposed loops of gear housing exiting the bottom of the drops.
BFC Pro Tip
When installing these shifters, use a tiny drop of medium threadlocker (like blue Loctite) on the main torque mounting bolt inside the handlebar wedge before expanding it. The constant vibrations of gravel roads and corrugated tracks can slowly loosen the bar-end wedge over time. Additionally, when routing your outer housing under the handlebar tape, make sure to leave a gentle, generous loop where the cable exits the bar ends into the frame—a tight bend here will introduce internal friction and ruin that beautiful, crisp indexing feel!
