SHIMANO K05TI-RX BRAKE PADS
The Premium Standard for Road & Gravel Braking.
The Shimano K05Ti-RX represents the highest tier of resin (organic) brake pad performance in the Shimano lineup. Specifically engineered for modern hydraulic disc road and gravel groupsets—including Dura-Ace, Ultegra, 105, and GRX—these pads are the successor to the legendary K03Ti model. They are designed for riders who demand the absolute quietest operation and the most sophisticated modulation available, without the "on/off" feel or high-pitched squeal often associated with metallic sintered pads.
The standout feature of the K05Ti-RX is the Titanium backing plate. While standard pads use steel or aluminium, titanium offers superior thermal insulation. This prevents the heat generated at the braking surface from migrating into the calliper pistons and the hydraulic fluid, significantly reducing "brake fade" on long, technical descents in the hills. Additionally, the titanium construction is exceptionally lightweight and completely immune to corrosion, making it the ideal choice for high-end builds in coastal or damp environments.
The "K-Series" Evolution
New Resin Compound: The K05 series features a re-engineered organic compound that offers 50% better wear resistance than the previous K03 model, significantly extending the service life of the pads while maintaining a soft, "grabby" feel from the first pull.
Titanium Backing Plate: Provides optimal heat insulation and high strength-to-weight ratio. The titanium plate is stiffer than aluminium, ensuring that every millimetre of lever pull is translated into direct clamping force on the rotor.
Silent Performance: Organic resin pads are famous for their near-silent operation in dry conditions and a much lower "howl" in the wet compared to metallic alternatives.
Improved Modulation: These pads offer a linear braking feel, allowing you to feather the brakes through technical corners with extreme precision—a critical advantage on loose gravel or slick road surfaces.
Key Features
Optimised for Road/Gravel: Designed specifically for the flat-mount callipers used in the R9200, R8100, R7100, and RX820/610 series.
Exceptional Wear Resistance: The updated compound bridges the gap between the longevity of metal pads and the feel of resin.
Corrosion Proof: The titanium backing will never rust or oxidise, ensuring the pads always slide freely within the calliper.
Rotor Friendly: Resin compounds are much "softer" on your rotors than metallic pads, extending the life of your expensive Shimano MT800/CL900 rotors.
Spring & Pin Included: Each pack comes complete with a high-tension return spring and a fresh split pin for a total service.

✅ Why This IS For You
The Performance Roadie: If you have a top-tier carbon build and want the lightest, most heat-resistant braking solution available for long alpine descents.
Gravel Grinders: Perfect for those who ride in dusty or sandy conditions where a metallic pad might be too noisy and abrasive on the rotors.
The "Silent" Cyclist: Ideal if you can't stand the "turkey warble" or grinding noises of metallic pads and want smooth, predictable stopping power.
❌ Why This May NOT be for you
Heavy-Duty Commuters: If you ride a heavy E-Bike or commute daily in heavy rain and mud, a Shimano K04S Metallic Pad will still offer superior longevity in "gritty" conditions.
Budget Build Maintenance: If you don't require the weight savings or thermal properties of titanium, the Shimano K05S (Steel Backing) offers the same braking feel at a more accessible price point.
BFC Pro Tip
The Shimano K05Ti-RX pads require a proper "bedding-in" procedure to reach their full potential. Find a quiet, flat stretch of road and perform about 10-15 firm stops from 30km/h down to a walking pace (don't come to a complete stop!). This transfers a thin layer of resin onto the rotor surface, ensuring maximum friction and silence. Also, because these have a titanium backing, they are slightly thinner than steel-backed pads—always check that your calliper pistons are clean and fully retracted before installing them to ensure perfect alignment!
