SHIMANO RX-820 BRACKET COVERS
The Ergo-Grip Upgrade for Gravel Control.
The Shimano ST-RX820 Bracket Covers (commonly referred to as hoods) are the primary touchpoint for the 12-speed mechanical GRX groupset. Specifically designed for the rugged demands of gravel riding, these covers are not just protective skins; they are an integral part of the lever's ergonomic design. The RX820 series features a distinct, high-traction ribbed pattern that provides a secure, anti-slip surface, ensuring your hands stay planted even when vibrating over heavy corrugations or navigating slick, muddy descents in the rain.
Constructed from a proprietary soft-touch rubber compound, these hoods are engineered to balance comfort with durability. They provide just enough "squish" to reduce hand fatigue on long days in the saddle while remaining firm enough to offer precise feedback during technical maneuvers. Because they are a genuine Shimano spare part, they offer a "factory-perfect" fit that won't twist or bunch up under heavy braking—a common issue with third-party alternatives.
Key Features
GRX-Specific Anti-Slip Texture: Features a deep, directional ribbed pattern that provides exceptional grip in wet, muddy, or sweaty conditions.
12-Speed Mechanical Ergonomics: Tailored specifically for the ST-RX820 and ST-RX610 lever bodies, ensuring every contour of the updated 12-speed shifter is covered.
Advanced Rubber Compound: Designed to resist "melting" or becoming sticky when exposed to UV rays, sunscreen, or chain degreasers.
Seamless Fit: Engineered with internal locating tabs that lock into the lever body, preventing the hood from rotating during aggressive out-of-the-saddle climbing.
Vibration Damping: The specialized rubber helps mute high-frequency road buzz, protecting your nerves and reducing "numb hand" syndrome during long gravel grinds.

✅ Why This IS For You
The High-Mileage Gravel Rider: If your current hoods have become smooth, torn, or sticky from thousands of kilometers of adventure and exposure to the elements.
Control Enthusiasts: Perfect for riders who frequently tackle steep, technical descents where a slip of the hand could lead to a loss of control.
The "Fresh Bike" Feel: One of the most effective ways to make an older or hard-worked bike feel brand new again is by refreshing the primary touchpoints.
❌ Why This May NOT be for you
GRX Di2 Users: These are for the mechanical 12-speed levers. If you have the electronic ST-RX815 (11-speed) or ST-RX825 (12-speed), you require a different hood shape entirely.
11-Speed Mechanical Users: While they look similar, the RX810 (11-speed) hoods have a slightly different internal architecture and will not fit correctly on the newer RX820 bodies.
BFC Pro Tip
Installing new hoods can be a struggle for your thumbs! The secret is to use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) or even just a bit of hand sanitizer inside the hood before sliding it on. This provides a temporary lubricant that allows the hood to slide into place easily; the alcohol then evaporates, leaving the hood "locked" and tacky against the lever body. Avoid using soapy water or oils, as these can stay trapped under the rubber and cause the hoods to twist dangerously during your next ride!
