The Shimano SH-RX910 Pontoon is a revolutionary component designed specifically for the flagship S-PHYRE RX910 gravel racing shoe. • Non-Shimano Pedals: While they can work with some other 2-bolt brands (like Crankbrothers), the tolerances are designed strictly for Shimano SPD. Using other pedals may cause difficulty clipping in or out.

• Bikepacking / Hike-a-Bike: If your "gravel" involves 50% walking through rock gardens, a traditional MTB shoe with deeper, more aggressive rubber lugs (like the Shimano XC9) will provide better traction.

BFC Pro Tip

The RX910 must be used with this pontoon system. Riding without them not only makes the shoe feel unstable but can actually lead to unintended "step-outs" because the cleat sits too high relative to the rest of the sole. When installing, ensure the arrows on the pontoons are pointing toward the front of the shoe—installing them backward will interfere with the pedal mechanism and make clipping in nearly impossible!
