FORM BIKE FITTING SPEEDPLAY R20 CLEAT EXTERNDER PLATE
The FORM Speedplay Cleat Extender Plate R20 is a precision-engineered solution tailored for competitive road cyclists, ultra-endurance riders, and bike fitters looking to move beyond the restrictive positioning limits of standard hardware. Modern bike fitting principles reveal that shifting the shoe cleat further back toward the mid-foot yields substantial biomechanical benefits. By shortening the foot's natural "lever arm" over the pedal spindle, this rearward shift drastically reduces the workload on your calves and Achilles tendons, preserving critical muscular energy for late-stage race efforts.
Constructed from premium, high-grade aluminium, the R20 plate replaces the standard Speedplay base plate and adds a minimal 3.5mm to your overall stack height. The clever design features two distinct sets of cleat attachment points—a standard position and a dedicated rearward position—offering unparalleled fore/aft customisation. This structural shift effectively relocates high-pressure zones away from the ball of the foot, making it an exceptional tool for eliminating painful "hot foot" and numbness during long training sessions.
Every kit is supplied with high-tensile Torx countersunk screws designed to sit perfectly flush within the plate geometry, ensuring complete structural integrity under high-torque sprinting and climbing loads. By altering the muscular recruitment patterns of the lower leg, the R20 plate allows riders to experiment safely with aggressive, powerful foot positioning, turning ordinary cycling shoes into a highly stable, customized platform.

Why This IS For You
✅ Banishes Pedalling Hot Spots: Perfect if you suffer from persistent foot numbness or burning sensations beneath the ball of your foot during long endurance rides.
✅ Relieves Calf & Achilles Strain: Ideal for riders managing tight calf muscles or chronic Achilles tendon irritation by stabilizing the foot and shortening the ankle lever.
✅ Fixes Forward Shoe Drill Out: Excellent if your current road shoes have standard 3-hole configurations drilled too far forward to achieve a modern, balanced bike fit.
Why This May NOT Be For You
❌ No Shims or Wedges Allowed: It is strictly advised not to use cleat wedges or leg length shims with this plate, as the screw alignment angles can cause the assembly to fail.
❌ Minor Modifications Required: Depending on your setup, you may need to use a craft knife or drill to slightly trim the blue plastic Speedplay wedges to achieve maximum rearward clearance.
❌ Slightly Increases Stack Height: Adds 3.5mm of physical material under your shoe, meaning you will need to lower your saddle by the corresponding amount to maintain your correct knee extension.
BFC PRO TIP
Because this extender plate relies on specific Torx countersunk hardware to guarantee a flush, secure fit, always use the provided screws and the included mini Torx tool during assembly—substituting standard hex or Phillips head screws will ruin the interface. When pushing your cleats back by the full 20mm, remember that you are effectively shortening your functional leg length at the bottom of the stroke. Be sure to lower your saddle by roughly 3mm to 4mm to compensate for the plate's stack height and your new mid-foot position, ensuring your hips remain perfectly stable!
