The Shimano SLX M7120 hydraulic disc brake delivers 4-piston stopping power, short engagement, and precise control for demanding trail and enduro mountain biking.
engineered to deliver high-performance stopping power and relentless heat management for aggressive trail riders and enduro racers. Featuring a 4-piston caliper design, this brake system provides significantly greater braking force and smoother modulation compared to standard 2-piston setups, giving you the confidence to charge harder into steep, technical descents.
The companion BL-M7100 brake lever is redesigned with an additional handlebar contact point to increase rigidity under hard braking. Shimano’s signature SERVOWAVE action ensures rapid pad engagement with a shorter free stroke, allowing you to feather the lever effortlessly through tight switchbacks or dump massive speed when approaching sudden trail obstacles.
Built to handle thermal stress, the caliper incorporates Ice Technologies heat dissipation and quicker piston retraction to prevent brake fade and eliminate rotor rub. Integrated with Shimano's I-SPEC EV mounting platform, it cleans up your handlebar cockpit while offering toolless reach adjustment to suit any hand size.
Four-Piston Caliper Design: Delivers increased stopping power and heat management for steep downhill and enduro riding.
SERVOWAVE Action: Provides quicker brake engagement with a shorter free stroke and precise lever modulation.
I-SPEC EV Compatible: Optimises cockpit layout by mounting shifters and dropper levers directly to the brake clamp.
Caliper Material / Pistons: Aluminium / 4 Ceramic Pistons
Fluid Type: Shimano Mineral Oil
Mount Type / Hose Joint: Post-Mount / Banjo Connection
✅ Trail & Enduro Riders: You need serious, predictable stopping power for steep descents and technical terrain.
✅ Cockpit Optimisers: You want a clean handlebar setup with toolless lever reach adjustment and I-SPEC EV mounting.
✅ Reliable All-Weather Braking: You prefer the low-maintenance reliability of Shimano mineral oil and rapid pad retraction.
❌ XC Racers: You prioritise absolute weight savings over maximum stopping power and would suit a 2-piston SLX M7100 setup better.
❌ Older Cockpit Configurations: You use older I-SPEC B or I-SPEC II shifters that require separate handlebar clamps or adaptors.
❌ Budget Builds: You prefer a simpler, lower-cost hydraulic brake system for casual bike paths or mild commuter duties.
If you're installing this brake with internal frame routing, Shimano's J-Kit pre-bled system makes the job much cleaner. Before pushing the hose through your frame, leave the rubber protective cap on the barb to keep internal oil sealed and grit out. Once connected at the lever, perform a quick lever-bleed with a Shimano funnel rather than a full system flush—nine times out of ten, that's all it takes to get a rock-solid lever feel!
